Freelance Friday: Showcasing Freelance Art Producer Amy Yvonne Yu

In an effort to promote the website FreelanceArtProducer.com, we have started Freelance Friday.  The purpose is to promote the freelancers on the site so as to gain more attention for them and the others trying to get hired.  So, from now on, when a freelancer on the site provides us with a blog post, we will promote it on a Friday.

Today, we are featuring Amy Yvonne Yu, an art producer that has been told by one of her clients that she can “produce, bake, DJ and kick ass.” And, by another one that she has “an amazing passion for creativity and powerful imagery. Her curiosity about people and our world is an invaluable resource that will undoubtedly connect her with clients, creatives and photographers.”

To learn more about Amy, be sure to read on.  And,  if you think  Amy’s post is interesting or the site is helpful, please do share it and let your art producer friends know about this new resource.  And, if you do share it, let us know that you have done so.  We have a little something for you to say thank you.

Where are you searching for photography or other content needs nowadays?
I get most of my information from visual blogs that I follow that have amazing taste. I also look at all my promos (email and mail). Magazines are always a great source of beautiful imagery.

What are you known for in the art buying/producing world?
I am known for being able to produce content across different medium equally well (stills, video and experiential). I have also been told many times over that I am a straight shooter and that is why a lot of people call me randomly for advice of all kinds. I am also a very random wealth of weird facts. I would not do well on Jeopardy, but if they ever had one with weird facts, I would crush it.

Do you have a motto?
I like to keep it simple as I’m quite a minimalist. What that means mostly is that I do not trickle down stress, because that never solves anything. Also, I believe in great healthy food on set. You can’t work if you are luggish or cranky!

How about a favorite place to produce a shoot?
I have never been to Iceland and I am dying to see it. So perhaps that as my fantasy location! Japan all over is another of mine as well. I have already told a creative director I used to work with at AKQA  not to call me until you he is shooting in Iceland or Japan. Ha.

If you decided not to art produce any longer, what would you choose to do?
I would produce movies instead. If not, then I’d be a baker.

How do you describe your job to your mom or someone else not in the industry?
I wrangle cats.

What are some surprising facts about you that you would like to share?
I taught my cat to use the toilet. Mostly because I am a neat freak/germaphobe. It was entirely premeditated. I also got all my New York friends to do the same. It’s amazing when you have a small space not to have a cat box!

What is the last piece of creative that caught your attention?
This gun safety ad shot by The Selby & Kevin Zacher.

What do you love about your job?
The creativity and that I am constantly meeting other like minded creative folks. It’s been a joyous and equally hilarious ride.

What is your favorite way to spend a Sunday?
Getting tea and scones at Samovar with friends, walking around and catching up with people, then a movie! That sounds lovely.
