The impact that photography has in the world is immeasurable. Sometimes it is intentional and sometimes not so much. Either way, a photograph with a message is a powerful tool. So, when Executive Producer Wendy Gordon of Work Productions reached out to me to promote an opportunity for photographers to use their art to encourage voting this November, I offered to post the details on our blog and share via social media to spread the word.
Inspired by the work of local NY photographer Rachel Neville a small group decided to accept her challenge and commit to MOVE the VOTE. Wendy says their goal is to overwhelm social media with the hashtag #movethevote and raise awareness about the urgency to vote this year in the midterms. They are starting with artists: photographers, stylists, filmmakers and hope that they will be challenged and inspired to make great art that answers the question:
What moves you to vote.? It can be a self portrait or a series of other people – The “assignment” is open to their interpretation.
